Artist’s Statement

Colour and shape influence me; they are what I am attracted to, and that is why my subject matter remains eclectic … but composition, light, and perspective form the language of my images. I use technology, hardware & software, to support my efforts in revealing my insight, and although I remain disciplined about the truth of my subject I use space to accent its beauty. The final outcome often reflects the glory of the subject as I originally saw it … but sometimes more.

When everything has been done, I continue to be surprised at how the images move people and further, how they see them. I hope you enjoy the images I have captured.

Artist's Biography

I have been passionate about photography since age 12 when I borrowed my uncle’s 35mm camera for my first big project; photographing my travels through Greece as a violinist with my junior high school's concert tour. Performing before crowds didn't excite me nearly as much as capturing that-perfect-moment on film along the way.

I went on to photograph five high-school yearbooks producing memories for thousands of students as well as my own…like experimenting in the dark-room so late that the school janitor had to escort me out. I freelanced for Eaton's just after school but my career in television was accelerating so I pursued that, which led me to a very fulfilling international editorial career including ProMax, Can Pro, and New York Festival awards … and then digital photography arrived. The instant gratification that was common-place in television production was now, for the first time, available in photography and it sparked a rebirth for me. I am still editing, but digital photography is where I express my creativity on a more personal level.

Recent achievements include publications on a variety of web sites from the internationally acclaimed mirrorproject.com to a local (Ajax) band's web site emptychambermusic.com, as well as DWAC's and PRAC's web sites. I've enjoyed print coverage of various exhibitions and awards from the Ajax News Advertiser, Citizens' Eye, SNAP Ajax, and ArtScene.

Although a personal highlight was publication in Ajax's 50 th Anniversary Calendar, by far, the most rewarding triumph to date has been sharing two exclusive exhibitions with my 10 year old daughter, Willow David. They were PRAC's "Father/Daughter" Exhibition (34 Images) - McLean Centre Aug. 8-Sept. 12, 2005, and the Town of Ajax Main Library's "Digital Duo" Exhibition (29 Images) Oct. 1-30, 2005.

Other rewarding experiences have included:

  • Award of Excellence - PRAC's 7th Annual Juried Art exhibition Nov. 4-Dec. 4, 2005.
  • 1 st Prize, Landscape - DWAC's 2nd Annual Juried Photo exhibition Oct. 3-31, 2005.
  • Honorable Mention - DWAC’s 1st Annual Juried Photo contest June 10-July 12,2004
  • 2 Honorable Mention - Ajax 's 2004 Annual Photo contest Sept. 13-Oct. 28, 2004.
  • DWAC’s "Mystery Masterpiece" Fundraiser exhibition Apr. 24, 2006.
  • Ajax's 50 th Anniversary Showcase - Ajax Main Library Jan. 1-31, 05
  • DWAC’s “Profile of Durham Artists” Nov. 7-Dec. 6, 2005
  • DWAC’s year long “Art-To-Go” exhibition Nov. 2004-2005
  • DWAC’s Community Show exhibition Dec. 3-Jan. 9, 2005
