The Durham West Arts Centre is a 'hub' organization working to establish links with artists, arts groups and arts lovers. We host exhibitions, activities and events at the Centre as attractors. We want to meet and talk to the groups and individuals who are willing to help build the infrastructure for a permanent arts centre in Ajax-Pickering.
The Durham West Arts Centre's Youth Arts Council is organizing an installation competition for the high schools in Ajax-Pickering. School teams will do clean-ups of local watersheds with the help of the Toronto Region Conservation Authority, the City of Pickering and the Town of Ajax. The power-washed 'finds' from the watersheds combined with waste materials from their schools provide the building materials for their creative installations.
School construction teams of ten students will creatively assemble the 'Enviromonster' in the centre court of the Pickering Town Centre on April 18th. Enviromonsters are on view through the Monday, the 25th. The Pickering Town Centre has generously provided the $1000 first prize and $500 second prize. There will also be a $200 popular choice award. Voting for the popular choice takes place April 19-24th with a prize ceremony for all awards on April 25th.
Too much fun to miss? Get involved with the watershed clean ups; coach your high schools creative team; cheer on the construction; vote for your favourite 'Enviromonster'; attend the awards ceremony.
This project is a perfect blend of creativity and environmental consciousness. Call 905-250-9891 to get involved or e-mail press contact, e-mail Jennifer Pereira for more information.
