What is DWAC?
The Durham West Arts Centre is a 'hub' organization working to establish links with artists, arts groups and arts lovers. We want to meet and talk to the groups and individuals who are willing to help build the infrastructure for a permanent arts centre in Ajax-Pickering.

Our Provincial Project

10 November 2006

I am pleased to extend sincere greetings to everyone participating in the second annual Reading and Remembrance Project 2006: Holocaust and Anti-Racism Education.

Your partnership with the Ontario Power Generation, Veterans Affairs Canada and the Royal Canadian Legion pays tribute to veterans and promotes literacy. Your event serves as a forum for our youth to honour veterans who have served and to celebrate literacy that reflects on the values they so ably defended freedom and liberty.

As Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, part of my mandate is to promote literacy in fly-in First Nation communities, where
there are no roads. Literacy is the foundation on which to build an education and a future. Today as you share the reading of selected literature, you will learn about the sacrifice of many to defend human rights and democracy. These ideals will strengthen your understanding of a just society and inspire you to contribute to your communities across Ontario.

As The Queen's representative in Canada, I wish you an inspiring and successful province-wide reading.

James K. Bartleman
