The Durham West Arts Centre is a 'hub' organization working to establish links with artists, arts groups and arts lovers. We host exhibitions, activities and events at the Centre as attractors. We want to meet and talk to the groups and individuals who are willing to help build the infrastructure for a permanent arts centre in Ajax-Pickering.

Drawing Children's Songs

Sunday August 8th between 1-3 p.m. the Durham West Arts Centre hosts a free event for children aged 2-6. Children will listen to some of their favourite songs, "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", "The Wheels on the Bus" and "The Itsy-Bitsy Spider" and be encouraged to draw stars, circles and lines whilst the songs are playing. They will then 'find' ideas within their drawings to 'expand upon'. The activities are designed to stimulate the imagination and to improve manual control. The Sunday August 22nd Children's Program is for children aged 7-11. Cutting Collages features the use of craft scissors with different cutting edges. Children need to bring a photograph they wish to 'frame' with their collage creation.

Durham West Arts Centre members may pre-register children for the Sunday Programs as there are only 20 spots for each of these free events. Call 905-250-9891 to pre-register. Membership forms may be downloaded
